Job Summary:
We are looking for a reliable and experienced Long Haul Truck Driver to join our team. As a Long Haul Truck Driver, you will be responsible for safely transporting merchandise (furniture and appliances) over long distances from our distribution warehouses to stores, operating primarily tractor-trailer, long-combination, and straight-body trucks. You will ensure the proper handling and securing of cargo, perform vehicle inspections, and adhere to all laid down safety requirements. This role also requires maintaining accurate records, including fuel consumption, hours of service, and cargo information.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive long-haul trucks (tractor-trailer, long-combination, and straight-body vehicles) to transport furniture and appliances over long distances.
- Plan trip routes and ensure required documentation is in order.
- Conduct pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections of the vehicle.
- Ensure cargo is properly secured and follow safety procedures
- Maintain accurate records, including hours of service, distance traveled, and fuel consumption.
- Perform emergency roadside repairs if required.
- Occasionally drive as part of a two-person team or convoy.
Requirements:
- Valid Class 1 license with a clean driving record.
- Strong knowledge of freight handling and logistics processes.
- Ability to perform basic automotive repairs or maintenance on trucks.
- Secondary school graduate or completion of an accredited driver training course through a vocational school or community college.
- At least 2 years of experience driving long haul trucks.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to ensuring accurate and timely deliveries.
- Ability to handle basic paperwork and delivery documentation.
License/Certification:
- Class 1 License (required)
- Driving record check (abstract)
